George Smitherman’s husband reported missing

Christopher Peloso, the husband of former deputy premier George Smitherman, has been reported missing.

Toronto police say Peloso, 39, was last seen around 4 p.m. Monday in the Davenport Road and Bathurst Street area.

He is described as white, five-foot-eight-inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with brown eyes and short, light-brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark-blue jacket with a hood, tan-coloured cargo shorts, and blue flip-flops

Police say they are concerned for his safety.

“This is out of character for him and that’s why we are concerned for his well being,” Const. Victor Kwong explained to CityNews.

Kwong says police have started canvasing the area and have visited places Peloso has been known to frequent.

Smitherman unsuccessfully ran against Rob Ford in the 2010 Toronto mayoral election. Before that, he served as deputy premier and minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

The couple have been married since August 2007 and have two children.
