Two teenage sisters from Toronto who were injured in a mass shooting at a Nairobi mall have returned home to Canada.
Fardosa Abdi, 17, and Dheeman Abdi, 16, were shopping at a supermarket at the upscale Westgate mall when the violent assault began.
The mall was seized Saturday by members of al-Shabab — a Somali group linked to al-Qaida. More than 60 people were killed, including two Canadians. Officials have confirmed that diplomat Annemarie Desloges was killed and media reports and Facebook users have identified Vancouver businessman Naguib Damji as the other deceased Canadian victim.
The two sisters landed at Pearson airport on Sunday evening.
Fardosa, who was seriously injured when a grenade went off near her leg, was taken from Pearson to Sunnybrook hospital for surgery.
Dheeman suffered a broken leg and an injury to her arm.
