Donna Quan appointed TDSB education director

The Toronto District School Board has appointed Donna Quan as director of education.

The 30-year veteran was voted in as the official education director by trustees during a meeting Wednesday evening.

Quan took over the position as acting director of education in January when Chris Spence stepped down after admitting to plagiarizing parts of an opinion piece in the Toronto Star.

Shortly after accepting the interim position, Quan stressed her commitment to public education, fiscal accountability and programs begun under Spence’s watch.

Calling public education “a must,” Quan told reporters her priorities were stability, excellence, public confidence in the system and making sure classrooms have meaning for students.

She also said she would continue with Spence’s initiatives to help underachieving boys and addressed concerns about spending.

The TDSB is the largest school board in the country.

Several trustees took to Twitter to congratulate their new education director on her appointment.
