A high school student at Jarvis Collegiate Institute was arrested on Friday afternoon after bringing a fully loaded gun to class, police say.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested in a classroom for carrying the semi-automatic weapon in his backpack.
The school made an announcement over the P.A. system, and students said they had to stay in their classrooms for an extra 30 minutes.
Some also had their bags searched.
The Toronto District School Board said the incident was resolved quickly.
The boy, whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces eight offences, including carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
He was expected to make a court appearance at Old City Hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
