The TTC has concluded its investigation of videos showing a subway worker seemingly asleep and says no sanctions will be taken against the employee.
TTC spokesman Brad Ross said Tuesday staff reviewed the videos provided to the transit commission and interviewed the employee. The videos were provided exclusively on Monday to CityNews by a viewer who shot them on Friday afternoon while on a northbound Yonge train.
“While I can’t disclose what was discussed with the employee, the TTC is satisfied that no safety violations occurred and that the employee did perform his duties as required,” Ross said in an email. “No further action will be taken.”
The videos showed the operator, who sits at the end of the train and controls the opening and closing of the doors, with his eyes closed between stops.
This is not the first time the TTC has been under fire for an employee appearing to be asleep on the job. In 2010 a photo of a ticket collector asleep in the booth garnered thousands of comments on social media. An investigation determined the employee had a medical condition and his medication may have contributed to his falling asleep at work.
