Toronto radio station Edge 102.1 has cancelled The Dean Blundell Show, Corus Radio Toronto general manager Dave Farough said Monday.
In a statement posted on edge.ca, Farough said “the station will return to a more music-based format showcasing the best in modern rock.”
The cancellation takes effect Monday.
A new morning show would be announced in the coming weeks, Farough said.
After the announcement was made, Blundell posted on Twitter that his time at the radio station had been “the greatest time of my life.”
Last month, Corus Entertainment suspended the radio show after comments were made on-air about a sexual assault trial. Show producer Derek Welsman had served as a foreman on that jury. Welsman and Blundell spoke about the trial and Blundell later admitted that the remarks were “rude, inappropriate and homophobic.”
The website, www.edge.ca/deanblundellshow, has already been taken down, and it appears the group’s Facebook page has also been removed. No tweets have been made at the show’s account since Dec. 12.
