Snowboarder McMorris wins bronze in slopestyle, Canada’s 1st medal in Sochi

Canada has its first medal of the Sochi Olympics.

Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris won bronze in men’s slopestyle after earning 88.75 points in his second run.

McMorris, who was favoured for gold, has been competing with a broken rib.

American Sage Kotsenberg won gold with a first-run score of 93.50.

Norway’s Staale Sandbech earned silver with a score of 91.75.

Maxence Parrot, from Bromont, Que., was fifth with 87.25, while Montreal’s Sebastian Toutant was ninth with a 58.50.

Charles Reid of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was eliminated after finishing 14th in the semifinal.
