Anonymous tip leads to child porn charges

Police have charged a Toronto man and Markham woman with more than 20 offences combined in a child porn case which began with an anonymous tip.

At a news conference on Thursday, Const. Janelle Blackadar said the probe grew out of information police learned last week and culminated with the arrests, near Sherbourne and Wellesley streets, on Tuesday.

It’s alleged Matthew Wilson, 31, and Sadia Waezzadah, 28, engaged a child in sexual activity and spoke online about the sexual abuse of children. Police haven’t released Waezzadah’s photo.

In addition, Wilson reportedly exploited that child and another under the age of 16 when he met with them in person in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario and talked with them online. Police said he also unknowingly made a deal with an undercover officer to commit sexual interference on a child.

The offences took place sometime between Jan. 1, 2011 and the raid on Tuesday.

“Children should be able to surf the internet free from sex exploitation and sexual abuse,” Blackadar said.

“All of this availability of digital technology to children unfortunately puts them at risk and makes them vulnerable to online predators.”

Wilson was charged with 19 offences, including sexual assault, making, possessing and distributing child porn and luring a child under the age of 16. He is due in a College Park courtroom on Monday morning.

Waezzadah is charged sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing child pornography. Her court date is scheduled for Friday morning.

Police said there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
