Toronto expected to get 10-15 centimetres of snow Wednesday

Are you prepared for another wallop of snow? Toronto may get 10-15 centimetres of snow on Wednesday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and the GTA warning of the potential of snow and blowing snow on Wednesday.
The weather statement also extends to areas in Eastern Ontario like Peterborough and the Kawartha Lakes.
A low pressure system from Kansas is expected to make its way to the lower Great Lakes region on Wednesday, bringing with it snow and blowing snow for areas north of Lake Erie and in the Niagara region, the weather agency said.
A winter storm warning has been issued for Niagara Falls, Welland, St. Catharines, and Grimsby.
Although the amount of accumulation will depend on the storm system’s track, current models indicates between five to 15 centimetres of snow could fall in the affected areas.
According to CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai, the southern half of the GTA is forecast to receive between 10-15 cm of snow with the northern half receiving lesser amounts of 5-10 cm. Higher amounts closer to 20 cm or more can be expected around western Lake Ontario. While the Niagara region can expect 15-25 cm and are under a Winter Storm Warning.
The wind is expected to gust to 60 km/h or higher. The high temperature for the day will be near 1°C in the morning then falling rapidly midday. Y the afternoon commute, temperatures will be close to -8°C with wind chills near -17.
The morning commute is expected to be plagued with just a couple cm’s of heavy, wet snow, but the afternoon commute will be more hazardous as more snow will be on the ground, and blowing snow will be an issue too says Ramsahai.
Tuesday’s high in Toronto has so far topped out just over 10C making it the warmest day in just over 3 months. We haven’t been this warm since December 5th when Toronto hit a high of 15.6C says Ramsahai.
It is expected to snow throughout the day on Wednesday, and Trevor Tenn, manager road operations at the City of Toronto, said the city is ready.
“We have 200 salt trucks, 300 sidewalk tractors and about 600 road plows,” Tenn said.
So far this winter, Toronto has received 124 centimetres of snow. The city received 104 centimetres of snow in 2013.
