OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford retires

Ontario Provincial Police sergeant and spokesperson Dave Woodford’s last day on the job is on Thursday.

“It’s going to be the last day that I put on this uniform … it was sort of hard,” Woodford told 680News reporter John Stall on Thursday morning.

Stall joked that you can take the boy out of the uniform – but can you take the uniform out of the boy?

“I don’t think so. The way it feels this morning, I don’t know.”

Woodford has spent 31 years on the force and has been the spokesperson for the highway safety division for the past seven years.

He also said he is looking forward to shutting off his phone.

“I’ve tried to give this number away because everybody knows it — no one wants it!” Woodford said.

“I’ve got a new number and I’m not giving that out. I don’t want to be called in the middle of the night anymore. I want to be able to sleep in finally.”

Woodford, 59, said he and his wife plan to travel.
