A man and woman were taken to hospital in serious condition after a two-alarm blaze at a highrise Friday morning.
A 78-year-old man was found inside the unit, and a woman in her 60s was found in the hall. Both were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters were called to the apartment building at 121 Humber Blvd., in the Weston Road and Black Creek Drive area, around 11:40 a.m.
The fire started in a unit on the 11th floor before the intense blaze blew out the doors and spread to the balcony and hallway.
According to Toronto Fire District Chief Randy Smith, there was zero visibility on the floor.
“All you can feel is heat. You can see nothing. And you’re trying to go towards the heat. So that’s what makes it difficult.”
There is no word yet on a cause.
The building is operated by the Toronto Community Housing Corporation.
