Crown asks Stuckless how he got away with abusing boys for 40 years

It’s Day 2 on the stand for Gordon Stuckless who faces charges of buggery, assault and gross indecency at his trial in Toronto.

The Crown continued its cross examination Thursday.

Crown asks Stuckless how he got away with abusing boys for over 40 years?

“I don’t know why they didn’t speak up. When I was abused I was getting rewards,” Stuckless said.

He said he never gave any of his victims Leaf tickets or memorabilia. “Perhaps a movie or a bag of chips.”

The Crown reminded him that he told one boy he would  never get anywhere in hockey if he told anyone.

“I didn’t threaten them. I don’t know if they were ashamed of what I was doing,” he said.

Stuckless denies having sex with any boys at the Maple Leaf Gardens. He heard rumours that John Paul Roby, an usher, was abusing boys in the basement of the Gardens.

Stuckless said he would sometimes let one boy into a Marlies game, but it was John Paul Roby and equipment manager George Hannah, who were part of a sex ring, that would fill the seats with little boys.

Crown suggested that Stuckless joined in and abused boys there as well.

Stuckless denied this.

John Paul Roby was convicted of 60 offences and declared a dangerous offender. He died in jail.

Hannah died in 1984.
