Jamie Oliver to open restaurant at Yorkdale mall

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is expanding his restaurant chain into North America and will open Jamie’s Italian at Yorkdale mall in spring 2015.

Oliver, who opened his first restaurant in 2008, is partnering with King Street Food Co., which is behind Toronto’s Buca Italian restaurant and Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse.

“Canada is a place very close to my heart. I’m always excited about spending time there, and whenever I visit, I always get an amazing welcome,” Oliver said in a release.

Oliver said he was hunting for the right partner and found it in Buca’s owners, Gus Giazitzidis, Peter Tsebelis and chef Rob Gentile, who shared “the exact same ideas.”

“I knew I had found the right guys to kick start this exciting project with. It’s going to be epic!”

Jamie’s Italian, which focuses on simple, fresh Italian food, has 35 locations in the United Kingdom and eight others overseas, including Singapore, Australia, Russia and Dubai.

Giazitzidis said King Street Food was “thrilled to join forces” with Oliver.
