Mayor Rob Ford held a press conference on Thursday to talk about what he calls wasteful spending at Waterfront Toronto.
However when it came time for reporter questions, the focus quickly turned to the mayor’s recovery after rehabilitation for alcohol addiction.
“A lot of people really wish that I’m going to fail, that I’m going to drink and that I’m doing to do drugs,” Ford said. “Unfortunately, that wish, guaranteed, will not come true because I’m as sober as a judge and I’m moving forward running this city.”
CityNews reporter Cynthia Mulligan pointed out that the mayor was lacking his usual bombast.
“I’m as healthy as a horse,” he responded, shrugging.
Meanwhile, about the waterfront revitalization project, Ford said Waterfront Toronto wasted $600,000 on public washrooms and called for CEO John Campbell to step down.
“You must be kidding,” Ford said about the price tag.
“Waterfront Toronto has a complete lack of respect for taxpayers’ money.”
Waterfront Toronto chair Mark Wilson said the washrooms are for a well-used sports field and a large part of the tab went towards burying the huge sanitation tank required. He added that Campbell has the full support of the board.
