Metrolinx moving ahead with plans to electrify GO train service

Metrolinx is moving forward with a plan to electrify GO train service.

The provincial transit agency has issued a call on a government procurement website for information on what kind of electric trains are available for its network.

Metrolinx is looking for vendors who can supply electric trains and locomotives, as well as combination electric-diesel locomotives.

The agency is trying to electrify service in 10 years.

Mayor John Tory’s SmartTrack plan also calls for electrification on GO lines.

Interested vendors must contact Metrolinx by March 6.

More information is expected at the next Metrolinx meeting in March.
