The owners of a GTA snow-clearing company are facing nearly 70 fraud-related charges.
Toronto police arrested the pair on Friday after investigating complaints from people who paid for services they didn’t get.
During November and December of last year, the company known as Snow Easy Plowing advertised on sites such as Groupon and Living Social for snow removal services at a “deeply discounted rate.”
Many people signed up but following the first big snowfall in December, no one showed up to do their walkways or driveways.
When the would-be customers called the company, they got a voicemail message saying it had gone out of business.
Last year, CityNews received complaints from customers who said they never received snow removal services they paid for. Watch the exclusive stories in the videos below:
Zain-Ur-Rehman Shaikh, 25, of Missisauga and Zaidi Shahmir, 24, of Brampton, have each been charged with 18 counts of fraud and 16 counts of “pass off wares.”
They are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
