Police searching for missing Mississauga man in Welland Canal: reports

The search for a missing Mississauga man who police believe was murdered as led investigators to the Welland Canal.

Toronto and Niagara police scoured the canal for the body of Shawn Kapadia on Thursday, according to multiple published reports.

Officers believe Kapadia’s body is encased in concrete.

Investigators believe Kapadia, 22, was murdered at a home on Foundry Avenue in the Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street area on Sunday, July 5 – the day he was last seen alive.

His parents reported him missing on July 10.

Police believe after his murder, Kapadia’s body was moved to the Niagara region and police were looking for a stolen or borrowed John Deere backhoe that may have been used to dispose of his body.

“This backhoe was seen leaving the (Wainfleet) address on July 12 … carrying a large block of concrete in the front bucket,” Det. Dave Dickinson said last month.

Kapadia’s car was found at the same Wainfleet address, the Mississauga News reported.

No arrests have been made.
