Glass Tiger’s Alan Frew posts on social media that he suffered a stroke

Alan Frew of Glass Tiger has suffered a stroke, according to his Instagram and Twitter accounts. The award-winning singer-songwriter wrote that he had the stroke on Thursday.

Frew, who is the Canadian band’s vocalist and also plays guitar, wrote that he doesn’t have brain damage but has damaged the right side of his body, including his dominant hand. He has been writing Instgram posts and tweets by typing with his left hand.

He wrote that he is “fighting the warrior’s fight” and promised his fans that he will release his latest CD of cover songs from the 80s and perform live as soon as he can.

Glass Tiger was discovered in Newmarket in 1984 and went on to produce many hit singles including “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)” and “Someday.”

More recently, Frew, who was born in Scotland, wrote the 2010 Olympic broadcast theme “I Believe” and the Toronto Maple Leafs theme “Free to Be (This is Canada’s Song).”

Frew is 58 years old.
