Man dead in Oshawa crash

Durham police are investigating after a 55-year-old man was killed in a car crash on Wednesday morning.

The single-vehicle collision happened on Simcoe Street near King Street around 2:30 a.m.

Police say the driver, who was the only person in the car, was heading north on Simcoe when he lost control. The blue Buick went onto the sidewalk, hitting a tree, a concrete light standard and a bench, causing extensive damage.

There were no obvious signs of alcohol, police said, but speed may have been a factor.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Simcoe was closed from King to Bond Street for the investigation but has since reopened.
