Commuters heading in from Newmarket, Aurora, and Barrie braced for a traffic slowdown on Highway 404 near Stouffville after a massive fire at a scrap metal yard.

The fire broke out at Don Mills Steel and Metal Ltd. in Gormley, between Stouffville Road and 19th Avenue, around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, sending flames shooting into the air.
