Need a ride? Ask a friend: Facebook and Uber launch new partnership

By CNN and News Staff

Need a ride? Just ask a friend.

An old-fashioned way of getting around is getting a modern facelift as Facebook and Uber launch a new partnership.

Soon, users in select U.S. cities can request a ride by booking it from the Messenger app. The idea is that people who coordinate plans with Messenger will be able to book a car without switching apps.

It will also let Facebook import and save Uber users’ payment information, a feature that users will be able to opt out of. Uber is promoting the deal by offering the first ride for free, up to $20.

However, it’s not yet known when – or if – the feature will come to Canada.
