Eastbound QEW reopens after two killed in fiery multi-vehicle crash

The eastbound Queen Elizabeth Way in Oakville has reopened after a two people were killed and one person was injured in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday night.
The crash happened on the eastbound QEW near Trafalgar Road just after 9 p.m. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
The OPP said the crash involved four vehicles, including an two tractor-trailers, one of which burst into flames after the crash. The empty flatbed truck and tractor-trailer were hauling car parts. An SUV and another car were also involved in the crash.
The fire was so hot it caused the asphalt on the highway to melt, so the area had to be repaved before it could open to traffic.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Police told 680 NEWS they were in the SUV that was crushed between the flatbed truck and the tractor-trailer.
The driver of one of the trucks received minor injuries.
At the time of the crash, emergency crews said there was a danger of further explosions.
Police said the roadway will have to be repaved after being damaged from diesel that spilled after the collision.
Three eastbound ramps – Third Line, Dorval Drive and Trafalgar Road – will also be closed around 5 p.m., police said.
