Two men shot at alleged illegal gambling facility in Markham

By News Staff

Police in York Region are asking for witnesses to come forward after two men walked into a Scarborough hospital Tuesday morning with gunshot wounds.

It’s believed an altercation broke out around 10 p.m. Monday in a plaza at 4080 Steeles Ave. E., near Kennedy Road, in Markham.

During the altercation a 66-year-old man from Markham and a 50-year-old man from Toronto were shot.

Police said the victims left the scene and made their way to a hospital where they were treated for their wounds and questioned by police.

It is believed that the commercial unit where the men were shot housed an illegal gaming operation.

“At this point in time we don’t have any further suspect information,” Const. Andy Pattenden said.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses who may have seen or heard anything in the area leading up to, or following, the shooting. Investigators are also asking nearby businesses that may have video surveillance to come forward.
