Three teens face assault, weapons charges in Ajax attack

Three 16-year-old males face assault and weapons charges following an unprovoked attack on two other youths in Ajax on Thursday.

Durham Regional Police say three suspects confronted two other males outside a local restaurant in the Kingston Road East and Salem Road area. One suspect knocked a drink from the hands of one of the victims and another brandished a small knife after accusing the victims of staring at them.

All three suspects kicked and punched one victim after knocking him to the ground. The second victim was confronted but not assaulted.

Two of the suspects attempted to flee in a car after police arrived on the scene, but were arrested a short distance away. The third suspect was arrested without incident after fleeing into the washroom of a nearby store.

The three, one from Scarborough and two from Ajax, are charged with assault and weapons offences. They cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
