Via Rail beefing up security due to unsubstantiated threat

Via Rail is beefing up security at some of its stations due to an unsubstantiated threat.
Starting on Wednesday, the RCMP and sniffer dogs will be in place at Union Station. There will also be an elevated police presence.
Via Rail spokesperson Malcolm Andrews told 680 NEWS that for some time now, passenger transportation companies globally have been the target of unsubstantiated threats against their facilities. He confirmed that a threat of this nature was received at Via Rail recently and the police were informed.
Andrews said that although the threat appears to be unfounded, Via Rail has advised employees and reminded them to be vigilant.
In addition, Via has increased police and canine patrols in certain stations. in all such cases, Via’s police service is working closely with law enforcement.
Via Rail has not released any details about the actual threat.
According to the RCMP, Toronto police are taking the lead in this case.
