It’s the dream of any Toronto Blue Jays fan: Catching a foul ball or perhaps getting a high-five from a player.
A New Brunswick man did one better on opening day.
Douglas Parr, of Fredericton, took home $68,092.50 in the April 8 50/50 draw.
“I purchased the 50/50 tickets right before the game began,” Parr said in a statement.
“My kids checked the website for the results the day after and couldn’t believe that I was the winner!”
It was a true win/win situation: The same amount went to the Jays Care Foundation.
Parr said his family and friends would also benefit from his win.
“First thing we are planning to do is upgrade our plane tickets home to Fredericton. Plus, we want to go shopping for Blue Jays mementos to take back to New Brunswick for family and friends,” he said.
The Jays Care Foundation creates “lasting social change for children and youth.” That can include building baseball fields, providing equipment, funding teams, and other initiatives.
