Few details in alleged Uber sex assault

By News Staff

York police are investigating after a woman claims she was sexually assaulted by her Uber driver in Markham, but have released few details about the case.

The initial call came in around 3 a.m., police said.

Police have not said where the alleged assault occurred, or the ages of the accused or the victim.

The assault may have occurred near 16th and Woodbine avenues in Markham, or that may have been where the call came from.

No charges have been laid.

In a statement, Uber said they were cooperating with police.

“We take every safety incident very seriously and are committed to the safety of everyone who uses Uber,” spokesperson Susie Heath said.

“As soon as we became aware of the investigation, we reached out to York Regional Police to offer our assistance. Our safety response team is working quickly to gather information.”
