Police issue warning about teens performing mock executions with water guns

By News Staff

High school kids used to play spin the bottle, now police say they’re playing a game that could spin dangerously out of control.

Halton police have issued a warning about the “The Assassin Game” in which students throw money into a pool and then try to perform mock executions on each other using water guns. The last person standing takes the money.

But police say many of the students are using water guns that look real, putting their own lives at risk while frightening the public and eating up valuable police resources.

On Friday, Halton police received a frightening call from a passerby who witnessed a teenage boy driving while holding a gun to a girl’s head.

Police tracked down the registered owner of the car and spoke to the boy’s mother, who admitted he was out playing “The Assassin Game” with friends.

The teen was summoned home and police say he was playing the game with a water gun that looked very similar to a police service weapon, complete with a removable magazine.

The teens involved were given a warning, and school resource officers were directed to caution students at several area high school about the risks of playing the game.

Halton police say they’ve received several calls from the public recently about youths carrying firearms, and warn that they treat all gun calls the same — with utmost seriousness.

“These incidents have caused public distress and elevated police response,” Halton police said in a release.

Police are advising parents to speak to their teens about the game and advise them to stop playing it.
