This article is more than 5 years old.
It’s been an institution on Yonge Street for four decades but now The Big Slice has served up its last pie.
A handwritten note on the front door says “sorry, due to property reconstruction by the landlord, we will be closed as of today.”
A spokesperson with the Downtown Yonge Street Business Improvement Area told 680 NEWS the block where the restaurant resides is being demolished to make way for two condo towers – one 62 storeys and the other 73 storeys.
According to the note, the restaurant “will advertise new location soon.”
The Big Slice was a staple for university and college students, as well as the bar crowd, over the last 40 years because of its late-night hours and its oversized pizza slices, large Italian sandwiches and pastas.
The restaurant also has a location on St. Clair Avenue that’s been there for 35 years.
