If you want to meet your friend for coffee, you can just text or call.
But if you want to have a meeting at your local Starbucks, Microsoft can set that up in your Outlook calendar.
While it’s not possible to reserve a table in the coffee shop using the calendar — unlike a corporate meeting room, it’s first-come, first-served — users can send each other Starbucks gift cards using the Outlook feature (available here, at the Microsoft website).
You need an Office365 or Exchange account to use the program, and, be warned: it doesn’t work on Outlook for Mac or Outlook Mobile (so good luck planning this meeting on the go, or cancelling it last-minute).
In a statement, Microsoft said the add-in was designed to foster personal connections, and encourage face-to-face meetings.
“In this fast-paced, hyperconnected world, where meetings are often conducted remotely or in a formal office setting, we sometimes lose a personal connection which is so important in building a great business relationship,” Microsoft wrote on its website.
“Outlook now makes it easier for you to have that personal connection by enabling you to meet your customers, business partners or study group at your favorite Starbucks location.”
Starbucks already has its own app, available for both Apple and Android. However, you don’t need the Starbucks app to use the Microsoft add-in.
