Highway 407 extension opens in Durham Region

By News Staff

Phase 1 of the Highway 407 extension opened in Durham Region on Monday.

The new road stretches from Brock Road in Pickering to Harmony Road in Oshawa, a distance of 22 kilometres. Meanwhile, Highway 412 – a 10 kilometre north-south highway that connects Highway 407 to Highway 401 – is now open to traffic.

It will be free until the end of the year.

The second phase of the project — connecting the 407 to Highway 35 and building Highway 418 to connect to the 401 just past Courtice — is expected to open in late 2017.

The Highway 407 East Project is part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario’s history, an investment of about $160 billion over 12 years. The ongoing project supports some 110,000 jobs.

Drivers who use highways 407 ETR, 407 and 412 can use one transponder and will receive just one invoice, making the tolling process seamless.
