Save it for Drake.
The vast majority of Toronto residents don’t call it The Six. Or the 6ix. Instead, it’s Toronto, with two Ts.
A Forum Research poll found that just seven per cent of us refer to the city as The 6ix, with a full 75 per cent of us calling it Toronto, and pronouncing it To-RON-to.
Another 10 per cent of Toronto residents use the term TO, while the remaining eight per cent used a different term.
“We will have to repeat this poll in a year or two to see if the term “The 6ix” has gained any traction, or, indeed, has survived at all,” Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff said in a statement.
“But for now, Toronto is what people call the city, with a brief nod to the classic TO.”
A full 70 per cent of us pronounce each syllable when we say Toronto, while 24 per cent use the shorter, two syllable version known to most residents: Tronnah. And it’s a topic on which we all have an opinion: just six per cent of Toronto residents said they didn’t know how they pronounced their cities name.
What do you call it? Have your say in our poll.
