It’s not every day you meet someone who is 105-years-old and happens to be a great golfer.
This week’s CityNews Athlete of the Week happens to be the oldest member of the club. His name is Bruce Maclean and if you happen to hit up the links at Centennial Park Golf Centre in Etobicoke, you might just spot him on the fairway.
Maclean started playing golf when he was a young man, but told CityNews he took a lengthy break from the game when he got married.
“When I was very young I played quite a bit of golf, but then I got married and had children and so I didn’t play golf for 50 years. I started again about the year 2000”.
Bruce says that he took a three week break from the game this summer because of the extreme heat, but usually tries to golf twice a week. His caregiver Elizabeth Fleming has now become his golfing partner and she says she learned all her skills from this golf master.
This winter Maclean will head down to Florida for the 49th consecutive year and says he plans to be on the links daily.
“Golfing has been my exercise outlet all along and I enjoy every minute of it and I’m looking forward to another winter in Florida.”
