Rush will be getting the keys to the city.
Mayor John Tory tweeted the announcement on Wednesday night, joking that the band would receive #KeyToYYZ.
‘YYZ’ is one of Rush’s most famous songs and is a staple of their live shows. It’s also the airport code for Toronto.
Band members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are from Toronto, while Neil Peart is from St. Catharines.
The band has already received the Order of Canada and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rush will receive the keys from Tory in a ceremony on Saturday. The announcement will coincide with the opening of a Rush-themed park in Willowdale. Called Lee-Lifeson Park, the space will feature music-themed art installations.
