One woman is dead and three people, including a six-year-old girl, have serious injuries after a crash in Brampton.

The collision happened on Highway 50 at Cottrelle Boulevard, near Highway 7 and The Gore Road, around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Peel police said a Hyundai and a transport truck collided. A third vehicle, an Acura, then crashed into the two vehicles.

There were six people in the Hyundai, and all of the injured people were in that vehicle.

Police said the woman killed, believed to be elderly, was sitting in the back of the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other females, who were also in the back of the car, were first taken to a local hospital and then to trauma centres.

The girl, who was also sitting in the back seat, has serious injuries. She was initially taken to a local hospital and then to the Hospital for Sick Children.

A male, who was in the front passenger seat, and the man driving the car were not hurt.

No other injuries were reported in the other vehicles.

Highway 50 was closed from Bellchase Trail to Ebenezer Road but reopened just after 12:30 p.m. During the closure, one man was arrested for impaired driving after he drove through the road block.

The cause of the original crash is not yet known. There is no word on charges.
