Canadian suspect in Belize murders released on bail

A Canadian man held in connection with the murder of an Ontario woman and her American boyfriend in Belize was released on bail on Friday.
7 News Belize reports John Deshaies posted 20 thousand dollars bail after spending ten days in police custody in the city of Corozal.
While in custody he was reportedly questioned by both local authorities as well as FBI agents who were assisting Belize police in the murder investigation.
He is not facing any charges in connection with the murders of Francesca Matus and Drew DeVoursney. However he was charged with stealing equipment from a nearby casino.
Deshaies was reportedly a tenant at Matus’s beachfront villa and denies any connection with the double murder.
Matus and DeVoursney were found strangled to death on May 1, 2017.
