Woman dead in fire at TCH seniors’ residence in North York

By News Staff

A woman believed to be in her 60s is dead and two other people are hurt after a fire in a North York seniors’ residence.

A Toronto Fire spokesperson said smoke was seen coming from 35 Shoreham Dr., near Jane Street, around 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Toronto Community Housing building is home to Crosslinks Seniors Housing and Support Services.

The Toronto Fire spokesperson said the fire began in a suite on the 8th floor and was quickly put out. Crews are now working to ventilate the building and get rid of the smoke.

The woman who died was found inside the suite. It’s not known where the other two people were found. They had minor smoke inhalation.

There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire or the cost of the damage.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in.

Toronto Fire said they would be conducting a full fire code check of the entire building. It had been fully inspected earlier this year, and passed.
