What we’ve learned about the Sherman murders

The deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman shocked friends and family and opened the door to intense speculation and rumours. On Friday, Toronto police provided an update on their investigation. Here’s what we know so far.

  • Toronto police said they have sufficient evidence to believe both Barry and Honey Sherman were murdered.
  • Police believe the couple was targeted.
  • The Shermans were last seen alive on the evening of Dec. 13, 2017.
  • The Shermans were found dead by a real estate agent inside their North York home on Dec. 15. Their home was up for sale at the time and police have said there were no signs of forced entry.
  • Both were found dead in the lower level pool area of the home, hanging by belts, from a poolside railing. They were in a semi-seated position, fully clothed.
  • Autopsies found both Barry and Honey Sherman died of ligature neck compression.
  • Police say they haven’t identified any suspects at this point
  • Police have searched two residential properties belonging to the Shermans for the past six weeks. On Friday morning, the properties were returned to family.
  • Close to 150 bulk or packaged items have been seized for forensic analysis.
  • Police have interviewed 127 individuals so far.
  • Toronto police have a “significant” list of people who gained entry to the Sherman home using a lock box for real estate agents.
  • Police say they have security images of people in the neighbourhood.
