Woman hit by dump truck near Bloor and South Kingsway

A 35-year-old woman is in hospital after she was hit by a dump truck in the city’s west end on Thursday morning.

The incident happened just before 8 a.m. on Thursday at Bloor Street West and South Kingsway.

Paramedics said the woman suffered serious to life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver fled his vehicle on foot.

A man in a florescent vest was running through traffic, a witness named Lesley told 680 NEWS.

“He almost got hit by cars as he ran across the road,” she described. “He was being chased by two men.”

“He ditched his vest on the sidewalk and continued to run south on Park Lawn Road.”

Officers found the driver in a ravine and placed him in police custody.

Police originally said the woman was on a bicycle at the time of the crash but further investigation determined she was a pedestrian.
