Calvin Nimoh found guilty in stabbing death of Mark Ernsting

By News Staff

A jury has found Calvin Nimoh guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of cancer researcher Mark Ernsting.

The jury in the case deliberated for one day before returning the guilty verdict on Friday night.

Ernsting, 39, was attacked during a violent robbery on McGill Street, near Church and Gerrard streets, around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2015. He was a senior biomedical engineer in a drug discovery program at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research.

Nimoh, 21, was arrested shortly after Ernsting’s death and was initially charged with second-degree murder. However, the charge was later upgraded after investigators determined that while the attack was random, there was an element of forcible confinement.

Robert Iseman, the victim’s husband, spoke outside the courtroom following the verdict, calling Ernsting a loving husband, devoted son, brother and uncle and a brilliant mind with a passionate heart and a productive member of society.
