Driver flees after fatal crash at Danforth and St. Clair: police

A man in his 50s is dead after what police are calling a “catastrophic collision” between a car and motorcycle in Toronto’s east end.

It happened around 6 a.m. at Danforth Road and St. Clair Avenue East.

The motorcycle was going west on St. Clair when it collided with a car turning left onto Danforth.

The rider had critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police said the driver of the car fled east on Danforth before they arrived. They’re looking for a blue, four-door car, which will have damage to the right front side. Witnesses said part of the vehicle was hanging down.

Const. Clint Stibbe said officers are reviewing video and will release the make and model by the early afternoon. They’re asking auto body shops to look out for the car.

Police are notifying the victim’s next-of-kin and haven’t released his name.

“We have a family now that’s been destroyed,” Stibbe said.

The intersection will be closed for several hours.

Officers are asking witnesses to call 416-808-2222.
