Woman disposed of placenta in Mississauga park 1 year after birth: police

By News Staff

A 27-year-old Mississauga woman who was thought to have given birth in a park actually had her child a year ago in Brantford and only disposed of items from the birth on Monday, police said.

The woman reportedly gave birth at home with a midwife and then wrapped up the placenta together with the forceps and kept it in her freezer.

She apparently believed it was time for the placenta to go back to the earth and disposed of it in Sugar Maple Woods Park.

“Part of the afterbirth was persevered and kept for holistic purposes and was returned to nature yesterday,” police said.

The woman and her one-year-old child are in good health.

A 24-year-old man had been walking his Wheaten Terrier when he came across the placenta, forceps and medical wrap around 4 p.m. Monday.

“I was not walking him, my son was, and (the dog) pulled off to the side and … was sniffing something and (my son) pulled him back and he saw something,” said the man’s mother Karen.

Peel police had been searching the area, with the help of the canine unit, since receiving the call.
