For many, the TTC’s subway musicians are an integral part of their workday commute and often a welcome break from the stress of the journey.
This year, the TTC chose to feature some of their minstrels of mirth in a video wishing customers a happy holiday.
The musicians all play a portion of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, captured at various subway stations, with smiling onlookers enjoying a moment of holiday cheer.
Earlier this year, the TTC launched a revamped subway musicians program called Underground Sounds, opening up auditions to online submissions and increasing the number of stations where musicians perform.
The top 90 musicians received a subway musician licence and the top 10 competed for a recording contract with Universal Music Canada.
Classically trained cellist Leo Zhang was chosen as the TTC’s first “Underground Idol” following final judging back in August.
