A man remains at-large after police say he fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash in East York.

Two SUVs collided head-on at Coxwell Avenue and Plains Road, near O’Connor Driver, around 9 a.m. Monday.

Police say the two men in one of the SUVs ran away, and police who were in the area at the time saw it unfold.

“Police happened to be in the area … they saw the accident, they saw the people running away,” Insp. Jim Gotell said at the scene.

“They began to chase the people on foot. The two guys went onto a TTC bus and the officer struggled with the two people on the TTC bus. One person was eventually taken into custody, and the other person escaped.”

The suspect at-large lost his shirt in the scuffle with the officer. Police said the suspect is described as shirtless and wearing dark jeans. Police also say he is considered violent and dangerous.

Just before 1 p.m. police tweeted that officers have stopped searching for the man, but that they will maintain “an investigative presence in the area.”

The driver of the other SUV remained at the scene.

Officers responding to the incident were also involved in a crash. The police cruiser was heading to the scene at the bus stop when it got into a crash with a white SUV in front of the East York Civic Centre.

At least one police officer was injured, but the extent of the injuries is not yet known.

It is believed everyone in the crash has minor injuries.
