Two arrested in LCBO thefts responsible for 40 other incidents: police

By News Staff

Two men arrested recently for a theft at a North York LCBO outlet are likely responsible for up to 40 other thefts at the provincially controlled alcohol outlets, according to police.

Police say they were called to the LCBO located at 675 Wilson Avenue near Allen Road on January 16 to investigate reports of a theft.

After police managed to pull over a suspected vehicle, two men inside the car attempted to flee on foot but were subsequently arrested.

Dennis James, 25, and Nathanial Snowden, 31 – both of Toronto – face a total of 19 charges between them including thrft under and over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police say a follow up investigation has revealed that up to 40 separate incidents of thefts are believed to be associated with the two men, resulting in a retail loss of about $92,000.

The union representing LCBO workers has raised concerns about the increasingly brazen thefts from liquor stores, saying the situation has now reached crisis levels. Last December, police arrested two people and were looking for 10 others in connection with an organized ring behind a series of thefts from liquor stores believed to have totalled more than $200,000.

A recent Toronto Star report revealed there were 9,000 shoplifting incidents at LCBO outlets between January 2014 and June 2018.
