Pull out the green and gold, Toronto’s 32nd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade is coming to town.
More than 5,000 people in 120 groups are expected to participate in the parade on Sunday afternoon. One group, Toronto Paramedic Services, will be running a food drive at the parade for the sixth year.
“Our goal this year is to raise over 500 pounds of food and $8,000 in cash,” said Supt. Troy van Overdijk. “Of course, the Irish community is very big on helping out one another, and because of past food drives that Paramedic Services has done, (the parade organizers) asked us to partner with them to put this on for the folks of Toronto.”
The paramedics, along with floats, marching bands and dancers, will start at the corner of Bloor and St. George streets at 12 p.m. The parade will travel east on Bloor Street, turn south onto Yonge Street and then head west on Queen Street before ending at Nathan Phillips Square.
TTC bus and streetcar lines on the parade route, including the 94 Wellesley, 5 Avenue Road, 6 Bay and 501 Queen streetcars, will be diverted from 8 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m.
