RCMP and Peterborough police investigate ‘Canadian nationalist’ group’s social media posts

By News Staff

The RCMP and Peterborough police say they are investigating social media posts that seem to threaten violence against immigration lawyers, hate crime units, the Canadian Anti-Hate network and media, among various other organizations.

Twitter users flagged the posts written on Facebook by National Chairman of the Canadian Nationalist Front, Kevin Goudreau, to police on Monday night.

One post seems to provide tips on “high-value targets” for those considering “lone wolf actions” and names media outlets and “any organization that has anti-racist in it that actually means anti-white.”

A second post talks about the organization of a European heritage day rally and suggests participants bring “European flags, red ensign flags and white pride flags only.”

The RCMP tweeted saying that “the information has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities.” Peterborough police have also responded, saying they are investigating the posts further.

Peterborough Mayor Diane Therrien had strongly condemned the known white nationalist living in the community.

“I’m here to support this community and he’s not representative of our community, and if he wants to come down I’ll meet him on the front steps of city hall and we can have a talk.”

She says an anti-racism rally has been planned for tomorrow, that will “showcase what Peterborough is really about, not some Nazi living in a basement.”

The anti-racism rally was originally planned in light of the devastating New Zealand mosque shootings, but the organizer says this issue goes beyond one incident.

“There is absolutely no denying no matter what corner you turn that it’s time to unite against racism,” said organizer Rachelle Sauve with the Migrant Rights Network. “White supremacy is here, it’s on the rise in Peterborough, it has a very vocal presence.”
