Driver sought after couple injured in hit-and-run in Markham

A woman is fighting for her life after she and her husband were injured in a hit-and-run in Markham on Monday night.

York Regional Police responded to a call for a collision in the Yonge Street and Doncaster Avenue area around 9:30 p.m.

Police say couple were crossing the street when the were struck by a pickup truck in the southbound lane that was making a left turn.

The 45-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening head injuries while her 44-year-old husband suffered minor injuries.

Police said the vehicle did not remain on scene. Investigators are looking for white pick-up truck that may have minor damage to the front driver’s side.

The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Meadowview Avenue.

A photo of the vehicle and a video of the incident has been released in hopes the police can catch the driver.

They are urging them to contact a lawyer and turn themselves in.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Yonge were closed between Doncaster and Steeles Avenues for the investigation.
