In today’s Big Story podcast: stop us if you’ve heard this one before: The gun violence epidemic in Toronto is out of control. Yes, it seems like we do this every year, and perhaps that’s because the underlying issues are never given the deep attention and support from government that they deserve. But this week, after a prolonged spike in the number of shootings, Justin Trudeau came to speak with mayor John Tory. And Police Chief Mark Saunders held a press conference the following day.

So what’s being done? Will the federal government support meaningful gun restrictions, or offer funding for communities that badly need investment? Or will they toss some money at the problem, make a few digs at the conservatives and promise that a plan is coming? You know, sometime soon? This is, after all, an election year…
