A 54-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a cement truck in midtown Toronto.

Emergency crews were called to Yonge Street and Erskine Avenue, north of Eglinton Avenue, around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“She was crossing the street in and around the crosswalk … the vehicle was travelling on Yonge turning onto the sidestreet,” Sgt. Brett Moore said.

Moore said the woman is the 23rd pedestrian fatality of the year and the 41st victim in overall traffic fatalities.

Police on scene said the driver was also treated for shock.

All streets that were closed for a police investigation have since reopened.
